Since opening our doors to students in August 1971, Cardonald has helped tens of thousands of people to gain self-confidence, learn a trade, get a place at university or move into a fulfilling career. We want to celebrate success and give current Cardonald students inspiration from former students. If you have moved onto to university, plan to start your own business or have advanced in your career, let us know and we can feature you in our student or staff newsletters.

Here are a few of our success stories.

Kashif Ishfaq

Kashif studied at Cardonald for three years, progressing from NQ Legal Administration to HND Administration and Information Technology. On successful completion of his HND, Kashif moved to Caledonian University to study BA (Hons) Electronic Business.

Kashif graduated from university this year with a first class honours degree.

Louise Gray

Former Textile student Louise Gray, along with former students Deryck Walker and Scott Ramsey Kyle, were all nominated for Scottish Designer of the Year at the Scottish Style Awards.  At the time of going to print the winner hadn't been announced but we hope it was one of our former students.

Louise, who now lives in London, is one of the UK's most talked-about young designers.  She has recently had her work featured in Vogue and her clothing line is being sold in Liberty's of London.

Julie McElory

Former student Julie is still actively involved in the College's Disability/Age Forum, however, it is surprising that she finds the time between studying for her BSc (Hons) and being a TV star.  Julie recently starred in the BBC's Beyond Boundaries: Across the Andres programme that saw 11 disabled young people trek across Nicaragua.

Julie was also recently named as the youngest director to Inclusion Scotland, an organisation that works for equal opportunities for disabled people.

Jamie Dennie

A Carer with the Mungo Foundation, Jamie is one of the many people who study SVQ Care qualifications with the College each year.  For people like Jamie, these qualifications are required for their continuing professional development.

Commenting, Jamie said: "SVQs have opened many doors for me and given me professional opportunities that I couldn't have taken advantage of before.  It makes you better at your job and builds on your skills and abilities.

"I was apprehensive about studying because I'm dyslexic, however, I shouldn't have worried because the staff at Cardonald were really understanding and hugely supportive."
