Modern Apprenticeships

Cardonald College trains people on Modern Apprenticeships in Plumbing, Electrical Installation and Carpentry & Joinery.

A Modern Apprenticeship allows anyone over the age of 16 years old to gain practical work experience whilst working towards a SVQ Level 3. Apprenticeships usually last between 3 and 4 years, after which you will have a nationally recognised qualification and the skills to become a tradesperson, technician or manager in your particular profession.

However, if you are interested in becoming a Modern Apprentice in Carpentry & Joinery, Plumbing or Electrical Installation, you do not apply directly to Cardonald College.

You can contact employers directly to enquire about vacancies for apprenticeships or contact your local Careers Scotland Centre, who might be able to help you find a company running the programme.

Alternatively, contact the Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers' Federation (SNIPEF) on 0131 225 2255 or the Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust (SECTT) on 0131 445 5659. For Carpentry & Joinery and other construction trades contact ConstructionSkills (formerly CITB) on 03449 948 800.

Cardonald College runs a number of pre-apprenticeship courses that are designed to help you prepare for employment as an apprentice and are open to applications from anyone.
