Photography for the Media: Higher                     

The Higher Photography course covers many facets of society including: Reportage, Fashion, Sports, Wildlife etc. but its true strength lies as a creative tool which offers the individual to opportunity to reflect upon their own lives and interpret the world around them.  The Photography for the Media Higher examines social issues such as the environment and how photographs can be powerful artistic tools of communication.  The course prepares the student to both produce and evaluate media images. The course requires the candidate to complete three units and a Practical Assignment. There is no end of course exam.

Course units

·         Unit 1:  Basic Camera Techniques D7YE 12

·         Unit 2:  Photography: Research Project D7YG 12

·         Unit 3: Digital Imaging D7YF12

Practical Assignment

The Practical Assignment is submitted to the S.Q.A. for assessment and includes a 500-word plan; twelve thematic photographs and a 1500 ‘self evaluation’ written under exam conditions. It is designed to emphasise skills relating to the application of practical skills and related knowledge, and also an understanding of a situation that involves task management. The students are provided with a brief and are expected to demonstrate attainment relating to: organisation; interpretation of a brief; investigative techniques; assignment planning; IT; layout and presentation. The student will also develop and apply related knowledge of the researched theme and visual communication. 

The Practical Assignment should be ready for submission to the S.Q.A. for external assessment by mid May.

Attendance Pattern

August to Mid May

Tuesday and Wednesday, 1.30 pm to 4pm

Progression

HNC/D or Degree courses in Photography and other Creative Industry subjects.

Students must supply their own 4GB pen drives and A3 ring bound sketchbook.
