Social Care        

This course gives you a basic introduction to issues related to health and childcare.  It consists of 2 SQA units at Intermediate 2 level, which cover basic issues related to mental health in society and care of older people in society.

Course units

Mental Health Issues: An Introduction (Intermediate 2) F1P4 11

The unit looks at the history of how society has viewed mental illness and how this has affected present day views. There is a study of the causes of mental illness as well as ways of promoting mental well-being. You will consider how relevant legislation impacts on the services provided.

The student will investigate services available to people with mental health problems and for those who support people with mental health problems.

Psychology for Care (Intermediate 2) F17X 11

This unit is suitable for candidates who may wish to progress to employment in the care sector or who wish to progress to further study. The unit is designed to help students to understand how individuals develop and why they behave the way they do.

Students will examine the stages of human development – infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and older adulthood as well the ways in which individuals change – physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually and culturally.

This course has been negotiated for the Castlemilk Schools and will be delivered on outreach at the following times.

Monday               2.05pm to 3.45pm

Wednesday        1.15pm to 2.55pm

Friday                    1.15pm to 2.55pm

Entry requirements

It is envisaged that students will be working at Intermediate 2 level prior to the commencement of the course.

Progression

This course may assist with entry to a full-time course at NQ level in Health or Social Care.
