Sociology: Higher

The rationale of this course is to provide an in-depth study of the defining features of the sociological approach to understanding and explaining human social behaviour.  In doing so, students will develop a  knowledge and understanding of the sociological concepts, theories and methods and apply these approaches to the analysis and explanation of areas of society such as social class, education, the family, and crime and deviance.  By undertaking the course, it is hoped students will gain an insight into the social world; ways in which it can offer an explanation for human behaviour opposed to a biological or psychological viewpoint.

This subject will appeal to those who have an interest in Social Sciences and also those who want to develop their analytical and evaluative skills which are transferable to many other subject areas.

The examination is made up of three sections and lasts for 2 hours and 40 minutes, late May or early June.
