Course Description
The full-time course is for those interested in a career in social care who may wish to undertake a formal qualification and involves both practical and theoretical work.
Students will undertake a two week block placement and work experience during the course. In the first block you will work in a social care organisation one day per week and undertake a block, two week placement. In block two, from January until the end of the course, you will spend three days per week on placement.

Subjects Include
Core subjects: Social care theory for practice; Social policy & its application to social services; Psychology for social care practice; Sociology for social care practice and a Graded Unit.
SVQ units: Promote effective communication for & about Individuals; Promote, monitor & maintain health, safety and security in the working environment; Reflect & develop your practice.
Optional Subjects: You can select two from the following: Working in partnership with people who have a learning disability; Stree management; Youth and community justice, Understanding loss and the process of grief; Spiritual wellbeing; Supervision; Understanding Dementia; and Mental health issues in a care setting.
Other subjects will become available.

Entry Requirements
- Two Highers, one of which must be English/ or equivalent and any other higher.
- NQ Social Care, NQ Health Care or NQ Early Education and Childcare.
- SVQ 3 Health and Social Care plus a written college entry test.
- Candidates may be considered without academic applications but must successfully complete a written test.
All applicants must submit a personal written statement, attend an interview and provide two references.
Progression Routes
1st year entry to BA (Hons) Social Work at Dundee, Stirling and Glasgow Caledonian Universities; PDA Advanced Certificate in Care Services Management; SVQs in Care; Some careers in Social Care accessible in Residential care worker, Day Centre Officer, Care Officer.
