Course Description
Designed for adults returning to study after at least 5 years out of full time education, this course provides an alternative route into studying Social Sciences in Higher education. It offers the chance to study a range of Units at Intermediate 2 and Higher level in: Psychology; Sociology; Philosophy; Politics; History; Information Technology; Numeracy and Higher English (units only).
The course includes a class in 'Preparation for Higher Education', and a high level of tutor support and guidance is offered to help students reach their full potential. The classes on offer are assessed by continuous assessment throughout the year, and there are no final exams at the end of the course.
Subjects Include
Psychology, History, Sociology, Politics, Philosophy, English, Numeracy, and IT.

Each member of staff involved in teaching on the course has extensive experience of working with and encouraging adult returners. Many of the staff in the department were themselve adult returners, and are highly committed to supporting their Access students in achieving their goals in Higher education. Entry Requirements
No formal entry requirements, but one positive reference will be required and a short personal essay must be submitted.
- Applicants will usually have been out of full-time education for at least five years.
- An interview and a short personal essay is required as part of the selection process.
If English is not your first language, you must be able to demonstrate English language skills equivalent to IELTS 5, or have two ESOL Units at Intermediate 2 level.
