Course Description
This is an exciting new partnership development between Cardonald College Glasgow and Glasgow Caledonian University.
Students on this course are effectively completing the first year of a degree programme with guaranteed entry to a range of degrees in Electronics and Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University. The beauty of studying your first year at Cardonald is that you get a separately recognised qualification after the first year of study, keeping your options open, so that if you do not wish to proceed further after year 1, you still leave with a valuable industry recognised qualification in the HNC Electronics. At the same time, you will have the security of knowing that success on the HNC will guarantee you a place in one of a range of degree courses at Glasgow Caledonian University.
During your first year at Cardonald, we will introduce you to Glasgow Caledonian University staff and the Engineering department to make you feel comfortable making the transition from college to university. You will get a chance to experience university life and the different approaches to learning and teaching in the first year but still have the supportive environment that is Cardonald College. Over the 9 month period September to June at Cardonald College Glasgow, we will help you transform to direct entry 2nd year undergraduate degree student at Glasgow Caledonian University.
As a student of this new course, in addition to the facilities at Cardonald, you will have access to the Saltire Learning Centre, Glasgow Caledonian's state of the art learning centre in the city.
The course uses the latest SQA framework to cover the first year of Glasgow Caledonian's electronic degree programmes. Embedded within this framework are the units required to obtain an HNC in Electronics. Successful completion of the course will give guaranteed placement on the second year of the following degree programmes at Glasgow Caledonian University, BEng or BSc (Hons) Electronic Engineering, BSc (Hons) Computer Engineering or the BSc (Hons) Telecommunications Engineering.
Students obtaining a good pass in all 15 credits of the course may be offered a place on the BEng/BEng (Honours) Electronic Engineering second year.
Cardonald College has developed some good partnerships within the electronics industry. A workplacement is designed to be an integral part of the course and you will be encouraged to apply for places with partner companies. We will assist in identifying opportunities for workplacements.
