Course Description

This two-year full-time course is aimed at young people who have recently left school and wish to develop their practical, personal and social skills in order to make the transition from school to further education or supported employment through external agencies.

The course is designed to build on existing skills while focusing on personal and social development. Its aim is to build confidence and help students increase their level of independence. The course encourages a mature outlook on life. We aim to further develop the principles of Curriculum for Excellence and there is an emphasis on core, citizenship and employability skills through a wide range of subjects certificated by either the College or the SQA, usually at SCQF Levels 1 and 2.

Students can apply for financial help in the form of a bursary or EMA and all students on the course are eligible for a concession travel card.

On Fridays students also have the opportunity to take part in leisure activities and mix with students from other courses within the School of Supported Learning.

Cardonald College Glasgow is highly regarded in the field of Supported Learning and the teaching staff in this section is highly experienced. Students are assigned a guidance tutor and receive a high level of guidance and support throughout the course. Students are given help with post-college choices in consultation with parents/carers and appropriate agencies.

Additional Support is given at breaks and lunchtime, and the Personal Learning and Support Plan mean that student's learning is tailored to suit their needs and goals.

Each course has an element of choices as well as the core subjects, and students have ongoing extensive use of the community through trips and visits.

Entry Requirements

Completion of an application form and pre-entry interview.

All applicants must also complete the additional reference form.
