Course Description
The course aims:
- To allow you to read, enjoy and appreciate the value of a range of poems, a novel, a play and a short story.
- To help you communicate effectively, both verbally and in written essay work.
- To help you understand and appreciate other writers' skills in their use of language.
- To prepare you for progression to the Higher English course.
Course content
Three internally assessed Units:
- Language Study Unit
- Literary Study Unit
- Personal Study Unit (Spoken Response)
One external Exam:
- Paper One - Close Reading (1 hour)
- Paper Two - Critical Essay (1 hour 30 minutes)
The course runs for four hours per week.
