Course Description
The course uses the latest SQA framework to cover HNC Electronics. As well as being an excellent qualification for those enhancing prospects within current employment or seeking new employment, successful completion of the course will give guaranteed placement on the second year of the following degree programmes at Glasgow Caledonian University, BSc/BSc (Honours) Electronic Engineering, BSc/BSc (Honours) Computer Engineering or the BSc/BSc (Honours) Telecommunications Engineering.

Subjects Include
IT Applications, Electronic Circuit Construction , Analogue and Digital Electronic Circuits, High Level Engineering Programming, Single Phase AC Circuits, Electronic Testing Skills, Maths for Engineering, Communication Practical Skills, Power Supply Circuits, Electrical Networks, Programmable Logic Controllers and other units. The Internet and Blackboard (a virtual learning platform) are used as a resource for learning.
Why Cardonald?
The Electronics section at Cardonald have played a significant role in the development and implementation of the new HNC/D Electronics framework. From last year we have been operating in new custom-built laboratories within a new building. As an ongoing process we are developing new associations and partnerships with industry and this, with our close relationship with Glasgow Caledonian University, means that we can monitor trends in employer requirement.
Entry Requirements
NQ Electronic Engineering or two Highers from English, Maths, Physics or another Technical or Science topic, Electronics SGA Intermediate 2 or equivalent.
Applications are also invited from those without formal qualifications, but who have relevant life and/or work experience and are willing to complete a short academic bridging course.
Progression Routes
We have a long standing agreement with Glasgow Caledonian University for direct articulation to the final year of their BSc in Electronic Engineering.
Former students have also gained entry onto the following degree programmes at Glasgow Caledonian University BSc/BSc (Honours) Computer Engineering or the BSc/BSc (Honours) Telecommunications Engineering.
