Course Description

The School of General Education programme consists of a wide range of subjects - offered across many levels (Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher). Successful applicants will study for 18 hours per week (full-time) with timetables made up of subjects chosen to meet their individual needs - whether this be employment aims or university/college entrance. All prospective students will be offered advice and guidance in making their subject choices and in being placed on the correct levels of study. Highers and Intermediates may also be available on a part-time basis - day or evening.

A fully detailed application form is much more likely to result in interview.

SCQF Level

4, 5, 6 & 7

Subjects Include

  • English and Communication
  • Business and Computing
  • Social Sciences
  • Maths and Science
  • Art, Media and Photography

Each subject usually consists of three Units, plus there is an exam for all levels at Intermediate 1 and above. Each of the Units counts as a qualification in its own right (National Units), so even if candidates do not complete the whole course, they will still get credit for the Units successfully achieved.

After admission, students are offered a programme of ongoing guidance and support in order to assist retention, achievement and successful progression.

In addition, the College offers a high level of support for students who may have concerns relating to study or may have issues that could impact on their learning. Student Support will work with any student who has a disability or learning need to ensure that their experience at Cardonald is positive. The specific section in the prospectus will give details of how to apply for support and the types of assistive technology available.
