Course Description
Provides the opportunity to acquire up-to-date skills essential for employment in a modern office environment. This course is suitable for beginners and those wishing to upgrade their existing skills. The course focuses on the use of Microsoft Office to word process, create spreadsheets, presentations and databases. Students will also send e-mails, file, work with mail, photocopy and learn how to use an electronic diary and office reception skills.

Subjects Include
Administrative services, audio text processing, communication, numeracy, word processing, research and preparing presentations (PowerPoint), event organisation, handling business documents, managing time and resources, front of office skills and central services.
Work experience in an office environment is a vital part of this course, and usually takes place in February/March for one week.

Students will have the opportunity to go on a work placement, which assists them with gaining employment on completion of the course. Staff keep themselves up-to-date with developments in industry, ensuring that students gain the skills that employers are looking for. In addition to this, an outside speaker will come to give a talk and students may have the opportunity to go and visit an office during the term.
Entry Requirements
- Five Standard Grades at Credit or General level or Intermediate 2s, one of these subjects should be English. An IT qualification or IT experience would be advantageous.
- Candidates will be interviewed.
- The course is also ideally suited to candidates returning to education with no formal qualifications but who have relevant life and/or work experience.
