Course Description

Designed for learners with experience in health or social care and for those leaving school with general passes at Standard Grade. Coursework is both theoretical and practical and incorporates a placement from April to June.

Subjects Include

First Aid, Prevention of Infection, Sociology in Care, Psychology in Care, Values and Principles in care, Mental Health Issues, Healthy Eating, Communications, Numeracy, and IT.

Fees and Funding

There are no course fees for full-time UK/EU students. All full-time students are invited to apply for means tested bursary funding to cover living, travel and course expenses. Entry Requirements

  • Three Standard Grades at General Level, including English.
  • Applications are welcome from those without formal qualifications, but with relevant life/work experience.
  • An interview is part of the selection process.
  • Two acceptable references.
  • A health check.
  • A Disclosure Scotland check.

Progression Routes

Successful students can progress onto;

  • Health Care Higher.
  • HNC Health Care.
  • HNC/D Care and Administrative Practice.
  • Higher level study in Health Care, Social Care and Early Education & Childcare.
  • Employment as a Health Care Support Worker in a Health or Social Care setting.
