Course Description

Due to the high volume of applications, this course is currently closed to online applications. Please check back after the SQA exam results on Thursday 5th August when places may become available.

The HNC in Health Care is suitable for both school leavers and people with some health or social care experience. They coursework is a mix of theoretical and practical assessments and will incorporate a placement of two days per week from October to June. This qualification does not restrict you to one aspect of health care practice.

Subjects Include

Units taught include: Psychology; Principles of Practice; Physiology; Positive Health Care; Calculations and Practical Techniques; Workplace Practice.

Entry Requirements

Two Highers, including English or successful completion of Higher Health Care; Higher Social Care; Higher Early Education & Child Care or successful completion of Intermediate 2 Health Care programme with recommendation from guidance tutor.

Applications are invited from those without formal qualifications, but who have relevant life and/or work experience.

An Interview is part of the final selection process.

Progression Routes

Successful students can apply for a place on a Diploma in Higher Education: Nursing (Adult, Child, Mental Health, Midwifery or Learning Disability) course at a Glasgow Caledonian University and University of the West of Scotland.

Degree programmes in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, or Human Nutrition & Dietetics.

Students can progress on to a part-time BA or BSc from the Open University (OU). Students can choose from a wide range of OU modules, including subjects not studied previously.

A range of employment opportunities are also available.
