Outstanding Cardonald student Rosemary Lowne scooped four awards at the Write Stuff Student Journalism Awards in Glasgow last week.

Now in its 13th year, the prestigious event - organised each year by Cardonald College Glasgow - rewards the very best up-and-coming journalists from across the country's colleges and universities.

Rosemary won the award for best news writing, best sports writing, best scoop and also the overall award for Scottish student journalist of the year. The HND Practical Journalism student will now take up a work placement at the Evening Times and also picked up a cash prize, along with the prestigious trophy.

Rosemary, picture above with Evening Times Deputy Editor Rob Bruce said: "I am over the moon to have won the Scottish Student Journalist of the Year title - it really is an honour. I'm keen to gain as much experience as I can and the work placement with the Evening Times will really boost this. My ambition is to work in Scottish journalism and I'm interested in everything from hard-hitting news stories to more light-hearted features, so to be recognised by judges who are so well respected in these areas is fantastic."

The event was opened by Lord Provost Bob Winter and featured a key note speech by Mike Russell MSP, Cabinet Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning. Mr Russel said: "Journalism plays a key part in helping us all think about education with a clear and open mind. It can help build consensus around the fundamental principles of sound education policy and I have seen in other countries how such consensus can deliver huge gains in educational performance."

Fellow journalism student, Victoria Irvine added to the Cardonald haul winning the Scottish Sun College Entertainment Writing Award.

To complete a memorable week for the College, the Cardonald Courier won best college publication at the Herald's Scottish Student Press Awards.
