Cardonald College Glasgow and the Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA) have launched a new partnership that will improve training standards for childminders in Scotland.

The partnership agreement was signed by Maggie Simpson, Chief Executive of SCMA, and Alistair Campbell, Head of Faculty (Care, Science and Sport) at Cardonald College Glasgow.

In line with the Government's Childcare Strategy for Scotland, which has accelerated the development of childcare standards, this relationship will provide SCMA members with access to quality training and development.

Since 2010, the College has been providing training courses to SCMA members such as Paediatrics First Aid, Infection Control and Food Hygiene and are set to build upon this success and expand this offering.

Commenting, Chief Executive of Scottish Childminding Association, Maggie Simpson said:

"Our vision is to provide the highest quality of childcare through a highly skilled workforce and Cardonald is helping us to achieve this. SCMA currently offer induction training and a range of continuing professional development learning opportunities for childminders. Cardonald College Glasgow was the only college with the imagination and vision to enter into a collaborative approach with SCMA, able to offer flexible training that works around our members' commitments.

"I know that together, Cardonald and SCMA can deliver a first class service to our members that will benefit children across Scotland."

Alistair Campbell, Head of Faculty, added: "Our training will help SCMA improve the overall standard of care available in Scotland by childminders. I am proud of the relationship we have built with the SCMA and hope it will continue to grow."
