Cardonald hosts computer networking competition
16 December 2011
Students from Cardonald, Anniesland and Stow Colleges took part in a computer networking competition organised by Cardonald's School of Computing and Electronics.
The competition was based around a Cisco skills set and was aimed at students studying either HND Networking or CCNA qualifications and has been created to enable students to showcase their skills.
The first phase of the competition took place in the College's Business Centre where students had to create a VLSM addressing scheme for a given network topology. Students then had to configure a scenario on a virtual network utility called packet tracer.
The competition was judged by Duncan Thomson and David Paterson from University of West of Scotland and the winner was Paul Edgar (Stow), second place was awarded to Steven MacFarlane (Cardonald) followed by Artur Procajlo (Stow) who came in third. The winning students received prize money for their efforts.
Kevin MacLean, Lecturer, commented: "The students enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete against their peers from other colleges. I hope to extend these competitions into other IT related areas."
The second phase of the competition will be based on a more advanced skill set and an ipad, Xbox and Game vouchers are up for grabs.
