Cardonald named NUS Scotland LGBT College of the Year
27 March 2012
Last week, Cardonald College Glasgow was named College of the Year at the NUS Scotland Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) Awards. The awards, which are in their second year, seek to recognise LGBT activists and societies across universities and colleges.
The College of the Year Award was sponsored by LGBT Youth Scotland and received 10 nominations for colleges across the country. Cardonald was shortlisted along with Reid Kerr College and Aberdeen College and it was judged by an external panel.
Commenting, Cardonald's SRC President, Stefani Millar, said: "It is fantastic that the SRC has been recognised by NUS for our LGBT activities. We have held various events over the last year that have been really well received by our students. We have also been campaigning for equal marriage and managed to get 200 signatures to send to the government during the consultation period.
"On the night, when the winner was announced I stood there for several seconds until someone nudged me and told me to get up there. It was a shock, but a really great one!"
