Student success at Timber Trade Awards

22 May 2012

Cardonald College Glasgow student, Stephen McCallum, was placed 4th at the recent Scottish Association of Timber Trade Teachers awards.

The inter-college competition was held at Perth College and was open to all Scottish colleges. The competition comprised of a practical skills test to judge the students' timber talents.

Stephen, from Darnley in Glasgow, is currently studying SVQ 2nd Year Carpentry and Joinery Students at the College. Commenting on his success, he said: "I was really pleased when I was picked from my class group to attend the competition. It was a great experience and really tested my skills."

Cardonald construction lecturer, Alistair Leggate, said: "We held an internal completion to determine which student would represent Cardonald at the awards.

The standard of all the students' work was very high but Stephen's stood out.

"At the awards, Stephen had to make a joinery item from a plan set by the judges.  Stephen did a great job and everyone in the department is proud of his achievements."
