International award for graphic student

19 June 2012

BA Creative Industries Practice student Gavin McGregor from Glasgow received a Jury Prize at the prestigious Conqueror Typographic Games competition. The competition was open to graphic designers, both students and fully qualified designers, from across the globe.

Gavin_McGregorInspired by the 2012 London Olympics, the brief was to create a typographical poster about sports using the phrase: "It's not what you win, but how you conquer it".

Commenting on his win, Gavin's lecturer Vici Greenlees said: "All designs were displayed on the Conqueror website and the public were able to vote for their favourites. The top 50 posters were then judged by a team of seven international designers, headed by world famous typographer Jean François Porchez."

"Gavin was one of several students that entered the competition and I'm ecstatic that we have a winner."

Gavin's design, along with the other winners, will be displayed in visual communications magazine Creative Review.

Porchez is a renowned typographer who has created bespoke fonts for the likes of Beyonce Knowles and Peugeot.
