Classes at Cardonald College Glasgow for school pupils

Our School College Partnership service offers classes for pupils developed in close partnership with secondary schools in Glasgow and East Renfrewshire.

The College offers part-time vocational education through the 'Skills for Work' courses for S3 & S4 pupils and the 'Open Door' Programme for pupils in S5 & S6. For session 2012/13, we're continuing with our successful programme of twilight Advanced Highers, which are offered between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

Timetable for Intermediate 2, Highers and Advanced Highers starting in August 2012. Please note that this timetable is subject to change.  Students must attend two classes per week to complete the course.

The College delivers a Schools Link Programme for pupils with additional support needs from both mainstream and special schools. All these courses are included in the School Prospectus.

Delivery

In order to enhance pupils' understanding and expereince of post school learning, most courses will be delivered at Cardonald College Glasgow.

The majority of classes in the schools programmes will begin with an induction the week commencing Monday 20 August 2012, when we look forward to welcoming a new group of school pupils to the College.

Applying

Pupils wishing to enrol onto any of the school courses listed on the website should initially apply through their school. Skills for Work and some other vocational course applications will be referred from schools to the relevant Local Authority Training Unit who will then forward applications to the College.

Pupil Placements

A week-long work experience placement is available to pupils who are interested in a specific vocational area in the College e.g. Children's Centre or within an academic area such as Fashion Design. Glasgow City Council schools should check with the Education Gateway database in their own school. Other schools should contact Alastair Bale, the School College Partnership Manager directly.

Christmas Science Lecture

This lecture is delivered in the second week  of term prior to Chtistmas. It promotes possible careers in science and realted to areas of the curriculum by demonstrating the use of scientific techniques at the scene of a crime. In addition to promoting forensic science, we use this lecture, delivered by a visiting professor, to highlight other courses that have a link to policing and criminology.

The lecture is targeted towards S2 pupils in order to help them consider science as a worthwhile and interesting subject when they make their option choices for 3rd and 4th year.

There is also an input from community police on the consequences of criminal  involvement, particularly related to violence and gang culture. The theme here is avoidance and non-involvement.
