Supported Schools Link
Cardonald College Glasgow Supported Schools Link Programme aims to give students with additional support needs the opportunity to participate in subjects and vocational activities that may help them to make decisions on future options or to try an activity not on offer at school.
The Supported Schools Link Programme is a valuable way of bridging the gap between school, and college for those students who are considering applying for full-time courses at the end of their school years.
In general, subjects are offered at Access 1, 2, 3 and Intermediate 1 levels but this can be discussed with college staff to ensure pupils are working at the most appropriate level.
Classes are on a day release basis, most pupils take part in one class per week although this can be increased depending on the number of applicants and appropriateness.
Subject content takes into account the principles of Curriculum for Excellence and also incorporates the core skills. Schools can also request a collaborative approach to other certification in particular Asdan qualifications.
The following subjects may be offered in the session 2011/2012:
- Travel Skills
- Food Preparation/Enterprise Activity
- Art
- Construction Skills (woodwork)
- Hairdressing/Beauty
- IT
- Drama
- Employability Skills
- Introduction to college for students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder
- Digital Media
- Fitness & Swimming
- Horticulture
- Media Studies
- Childcare/Parenting
All classes are subject to viable numbers applying and being accepted on to the programme.
Pupils wishing to attend the programme must apply through their school, a Supported Schools Link application form should be completed and sent to the college and then pupils will have an informal pre-entry meeting to ascertain their suitability.
A Supported Schools Link booklet will be sent to schools to outline the subjects being offered and the timetable. Pupils are expected to attend for the full academic session.
Taster courses may available by request.
