Frances Dunn - Former HNC Social Care student

5 Nov 2007

Frances Dunn recently graduated from Cardonald College with an HNC in Social Care. An outstanding student, Frances was awarded the Ede and Ravenscroft Student Achievement Award at the College's Awards Ceremony in November 2007.

Frances is now a single mother, but for many years looked after her disabled husband until his untimely death. In an attempt to rebuild her life Frances undertook voluntary work within a Disability Resource Centre. As a result of this experience she decided she would like to obtain some formal qualifications. She was however unsuccessful with her application to other colleges and became known to us when she applied to do an SVQII in Care. Recognising her potential however, we advised her to undertake the HNC Social Care.

Both her written work and her work in class were of a high standard and she achieved the highest-level band (A) in the Graded Unit. Frances is a registered blind individual and has been for quite some time. Her motivation and commitment are exemplary and she has just started the Social Work Honours Degree Programme at Strathclyde University.
