Rosie Smith – Higher Social Care Student

24 Jul 2008

Higher Social Care student Rosie Smith has been extremely busy lately. Not only has she been studying at College on a full-time basis, but she has also been raising money for charity.

Rosie, who has Cerebral Palsy, recently led a team of Capability Scotland volunteers up Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. The event was organised to raise money for UK disabled charities, while increasing disability awareness.

Commenting, Rosie said, “I was volunteered by my mum to do the challenge and was very shocked when she asked me if I wanted to climb a mountain. Having a disability like Cerebral Palsy doesn’t stop me wanting to take on difficult challenges and enjoying life to the full, so I agreed to do it.

“At first I was a bit nervous, but once I met the team and we trained together I was fine. The climb was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget and, if I got the opportunity, I would do it all over again.”

Rosie first joined Cardonald as an administration student, but realised that she would like to work in the caring professions. After completing her NQ Administration course, she studied Intermediate Social Care and then Higher Social Care.
