Sheila Akomiah - HND Communications student
1 Dec 2009
HND Communication and Media student, Sheila Akomiah has ambitions of becoming a television presenter in her home country of The Gambia, North West Africa. This is one of the main reasons why she chose to study at Cardonald College Glasgow, which is located on the outskirts of Glasgow in the West of Scotland.
"I've always wanted to study in Scotland because it has an excellent reputation across the world for its education system. As I want to work in the media, gaining an HND and a Degree in Communications and Media Studies will give me a good chance of getting a job in the industry.
When I started looking at Colleges on the internet, Cardonald College Glasgow jumped out as the Media Studies course looked perfect for me. It offers a great mix of practical work, such as video production and an industry placement with theory. The course also gives students the chance to move onto a BA (Hons) Degree in Media and Communications at Glasgow Caledonian University.
I found the application process very easy and, once I was accepted, I moved to Glasgow a few weeks later. I moved in with a family friend, but found making friends very easy. I have made friends with other students on my course, along with international students from Cardonald and local universities.
I'm currently organising the College's annual International Day. The event is a great way for students from all countries to meet each other and find out about the differences and similarities in our cultures."
