LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE
The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is here to meet the information and computing needs of all Cardonald College Glasgow students. We provide:
- Books, journals, DVDs and online resources to support all subjects taught in the college
- Access to 90 networked PCs and 14 Macs
- Office and specialist software, desktop publishing , internet and email access
- Printing, scanning and photocopying equipment
- Knowledgeable and friendly staff to provide ICT support and deal with enquiries
- A welcoming and comfortable study environment
- Support sessions on online resources, information skills, referencing and plagiarism.
The area was refurbished in the summer of 2011 and is bright and modern. There is a central counter where staff deal with all enquiries, whether they relate to computers, online resources or paper-based stock. Staff can support you if your knowledge of computers is limited or if you need more advanced IT support. The quantity of books, computers, online resources and study spaces compares very favourably with other Scottish colleges.
The LRC pages of the student intranet are the key route to access our material. There is a link to the online catalogue for checking which books and journals are available and to allow online renewals and requests. Students are able to access a wide range of information about our services and help sheets on software, referencing and other relevant subjects. The intranet pages are the main access route to our online subscription databases and over 3,000 ebooks.
The LRC is open from 8.15am every week day. It closes at 7pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 5pm on Mondays and Fridays. You will find us on the second floor facing the lifts and the west staircase.
Assessment Centre
The Assessment Centre is located at the north end of the LRC. It is a central facility where individual students or groups can sit supervised assessments. The area can accommodate up to 24 students sitting paper-based assessments or 20 students using computers.
