Located within the Learning Resource Centre, on the second floor of the College, is the Library and the Computer Resource.
The Library
The Library offers you access to a wide range of materials including electronic subscription resources. The online catalogue will help you to find out about our stock and make renewals and reservations. The books and other materials are carefully selected to provide information for students of all subjects taught at Cardonald. There are over 90 reader places in the library, including areas for group work and quiet study areas where you can work on your own.
As a student of Cardonald College, you are automatically registered as a member and are encouraged to use the library facilities to help you with your studies. You'll find an excellent range of resources to help you learn in attractive and modern surroundings. Our qualified librarians can offer expert and friendly advice on researching projects. Internet access includes a number of subscription sources -including Infotrac, SCRAN and KnowUK- not generally available.

The library opens before classes begin and is open late three evenings per week. Please make use of the facilities during your time at Cardonald.

Computer Resource
The Computer Resource houses networked computers - PCs and Apple Macs - all attached to printers and many with scanning and CD burning facilities. Various pieces of software will allow you to word process, work on spreadsheets & databases, prepare presentations and learn to touch type. Some Graphics & desktop publishing packages are also available along with specialist software for students from specific areas, such as Electronics, Industrial Design & Video Production.
If your knowledge of computers is limited or non-existent, an Open-learning pack will enable you to work at your own pace. Support is also available to those wishing to achieve the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) qualification. FREE BBC Internet taster sessions (Webwise) are also available together.
The Computer Resource is open daily till 4.50pm and until 6.55pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. A leaflet listing all courses available is obtainable from Computer Resource Reception.
Computers and Internet Access
Cardonald College has over 1,200 PCs and Apple Macs, all of which are connected to the ever-expanding College network. Internet services available to students include:
- World Wide Web;
- e-mail;
- Newsgroups;
- File transfer facilities;
- Real-time chat facilities.
The Internet now holds a very rich source of materials for all areas of learning. Students on all courses* are provided with an account on the college Virtual Learning Environment where they can access course materials and you may have the opportunity to undertake a part of your course using e-mail. * excluding short leisure courses
European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
All students on courses containing a large element of information technology will be offered the opportunity to achieve the European Computer Driving Licence.
